Michael Vick makes successful return to NFL football in his first game with the Philadelphia Eagles
Friday 28 August 2009 - 08:07:56

PHILADELPHIA -- All eyes were on Michael Vick -- for all of six plays.

Playing his first NFL game since his release from prison, the Eagles quarterback got a standing ovation in a half-empty stadium, avoided any ugly protests and completed four passes for 19 yards.
Vick highlights

• Vick was on the field for six first-half plays, five at QB, one as a slot receiver. All five of Vick's snaps from QB were in the shotgun, resulting in four pass attempts and one rush. All plays were on first or second down.

• He was a perfect 4-for-4 on passing. Vick threw two shovel passes and one swing pass in the first half. His only downfield throw was a 13-yard completion to Hank Baskett.

• Jacksonville never had more than seven defenders in the box against Vick.

"It's been a long journey for me," Vick said. "I just want to do it right this time around."
Though his minutes were limited Thursday night, Vick was ready to take on any assignment. He played quarterback, ran the Wildcat formation, even lined up at wide receiver and completed a pass right-handed.

High school underclassman Jeremy Tyler leaves school to sign one year deal with overseas team Maccabi Haifa of the Israeli Premier League
Thursday 13 August 2009 - 06:00:04

Jeremy Tyler completed his jump from high school underclassman to pro basketball player on Wednesday when he signed a one-year deal with Maccabi Haifa of the Israeli Premier League.

Tyler, 18, is the first American-born player to leave high school early to play basketball professionally overseas. The 6-foot-11, 260-pound Tyler announced in the spring that he was skipping his senior season at San Diego High because prep basketball had become boring.

Jeremy Tyler had committed to Rick Pitino and Louisville before deciding to take his game overseas.

"I think I made the right decision," Tyler told The Associated Press on Wednesday evening. "I think this team is a good fit for me and it's the right country."
